Frequently asked questions

How do you decide which toys belong on this page?

A toy is listed here when the maker's own age guidance starts between 0 and 12 months. We take it from the product title or description. Toys where the maker gives no age are not included.

Are all of these toys suitable from birth?

No. About half are rated from 0 months. Others start at 3, 6 or 9 months, so check the starting age on the listing before you buy for a newborn.

Which toys should I keep away from a baby?

Anything marked 'Not suitable for children under 36 months' has small parts and is meant for older children. Our toy safety notes on the shop by age page also cover button batteries and magnets.

Do musical toys come with batteries?

Some do and some do not. The listing says which battery size a toy takes and whether batteries are in the box.
